Positively Teal Party @ Zouk | 31st May 2012
OvPlex™ was pleased to support the Positive Teal Party @ Zouk on 31 May 2012. The event was held to communicate the importance of raising awareness about ovarian cancer. The Teal Party featured inspiring and motivational talks by cancer survivors. One of the speakers, Ms Lim, shared her journey battling ovarian cancer – from being diagnosed to treatment to remission.
Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer among women in Singapore. Based on statistics from the National Cancer Centre Singapore, there were a total of 1,650 new cases of ovarian cancer between 2009 and 2013, and the incidence rate has been increasing consistently over the last 40 years.
It is important to note that the signs of early stage ovarian cancer are difficult to recognise. However, women who frequently experience the following symptoms should consult a doctor.
- Abdominal pressure
- Change in bowel habits
- Swelling or bloating
- Urinary urgency
- Pelvic discomfort or pain
